Painter Job Description

Second Shift (2:30p.m - 1:00a.m.)

Job Summary

The painter is responsible for providing for a quality paint job to products produced by Scranton Manufacturing Co. He/she will participate in the product preparation process, mixing and inventorying of paint-related material and applying paint to the products in a safe, quality-oriented and efficient manner. The Painter reports directly to the Shop Foremen.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Using spray gun applies paint/primer to products produced by Scranton Mfg. Co. producing a quality finish in an efficient manner.
  2. Assist in the preparation process (scraping, wire brush and wash).
  3. Clean and maintain an orderly paint booth including filtration systems.
  4. Clean and maintain an orderly paint storage building.
  5. Clean and maintain paint gun, pot and other related equipment.
  6. Work with the Safety Coordinator to assure safe working conditions relative to the painting process to include:
    1. Follow procedures when using respirator.
    2. Use air supplied hood when using paint with hardeners.
    3. Use ventilation fan, wear protective gear and close paint booth doors when doing any painting or using thinner for cleaner.
    4. Report any unsafe conditions and accidents to your supervisor and/or the Safety Coordinator.
  7. Dispose of hazardous materials in compliance with OSHA, EPA and DNR. (Work with Safety Coordinator to assure compliance.)
  8. Inspect own work and make corrections as needed. Complete inspection forms once job is finished.
  9. Report flaws and/or poor workmanship from prior manufacturing functions to your supervisor. (As priming makes some flaws more visible, it is critical that the painter pay close attention to welds, bends and proper fits).
  10. Work with supervisor to set and maintain weekly paint schedule. Communicate and deviations in the schedule to your supervisor.
  11. Other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Excellent knowledge of painting processes and equipment.
  2. Physical ability to paint all areas of products. This requires the ability to climb on top of equipment and crawl into tight places.
  3. Excellent painting skills, producing a high gloss, smooth automotive-type finish.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor and related departments.
  5. Ability to read and understand technical documents to obtain proper paint mixtures and understand safety precautions.
  6. Ability to wear respirator for up to four hours at a time.
  7. Trained on forklift operation.
